On May 13, 2025, the Deadline Club, the New York Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, held its awards dinner at the Harvard Club in New York City. This annual event recognizes outstanding journalism across various media platforms. NYABJ was proud to attend with members who were a part of the event like Maurice Dubois, Robert Anthony among others.
Founded in 1909 at DePaul University, the Society of Professional Journalists has long been dedicated to supporting journalists and promoting ethical reporting. The Deadline Club, established in 1925, continues this mission, with its members working across print publications, digital platforms, television, radio, and podcasts. This year, award winners were chosen from an impressive 550 entries, showcasing the depth and diversity of talent in contemporary journalism.
Each recipient was honored with the Deadline Club’s signature statue award, known as “The Rubes,” designed by the late cartoonist Rube Goldberg. The evening also featured an engaging conversation and Q&A session with CBS Evening News co-anchors Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson. DuBois, the former anchor of CBS 2 New York, and Dickerson, a former White House correspondent and longtime national news reporter, shared insights from their careers and discussed the evolving landscape of journalism. The awards dinner not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the vital role of journalists in informing and inspiring the public. As the evening concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to the principles of journalism.
