Football is Honoring its Best

CANTON, Ohio — For football fans, the arrival of August signals more than the start of preseason games. It marks the return of Hall of Fame Weekend, an annual celebration of the players, coaches and contributors who have shaped America's most popular sport.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame, often referred to as football's cathedral, welcomed thousands of fans to Canton for a week of festivities honoring the game's history while celebrating its newest class of inductees.

The Hall's mission—"to honor the greatest of the game, preserve its history, promote its values and celebrate excellence together"—was on full display as visitors gathered for autograph sessions, community events, fan experiences and the annual Hall of Fame Game.

On Aug. 8, five NFL greats joined professional football's most exclusive fraternity as members of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2026.

Quarterback Drew Brees, whose career with the New Orleans Saints helped redefine one of the league's most successful franchises, headlines the class alongside linebacker Luke Kuechly, one of the NFL's premier defensive players during his career with the Carolina Panthers.

Also receiving gold jackets were wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who spent his entire career with the Arizona Cardinals; legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri, whose clutch postseason performances helped the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts win multiple Super Bowls; and running back Roger Craig, the versatile San Francisco 49ers star who helped power one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.

The five inductees became the Hall of Fame's 383rd through 387th members, forever enshrined among the game's legends.

Hall of Fame Weekend is about more than induction speeches. It also serves as a reunion for generations of football greats, many of whom return to Canton each year to reconnect with former teammates, share stories and welcome the newest members into the Gold Jacket fraternity.

The celebration also featured the NFL's annual Hall of Fame Game, with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers opening the league's preseason schedule. The matchup gave fans an early look at rookies, free agents and veterans competing for roster spots before the regular season begins.

For many, the game is the unofficial start of football season, renewing excitement for the months ahead.

With preseason underway and another Hall of Fame class officially enshrined, Canton once again reminded fans why the city's place in football history remains unmatched. As a new season approaches, the Hall of Fame continues to preserve the sport's legacy while inspiring the next generation of players and fans.
