NEW YORK — If there was one word to describe New York this summer, it would be hot.
The city has endured soaring temperatures, but the heat extended far beyond the weather. From championship celebrations to celebrity weddings and sold-out concerts, New York has been the center of attention.
Fresh off the New York Knicks' 2026 NBA championship, fans flooded the streets in orange and blue as the team's victory parade brought parts of Manhattan to a standstill. Knicks jerseys, hats and championship merchandise quickly became a common sight throughout the city.
Just days later, another high-profile event captivated New Yorkers as the wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and former NFL star Jason Kelce drew celebrities from both coasts. The influx of guests led to heightened security, hotel bookings and increased traffic throughout Manhattan.
The Bronx also found itself at the center of the excitement as Jay-Z celebrated two landmark albums with a three-night residency, July 10-12, at Yankee Stadium.
Billed as "Jay-Z 30/25," the concerts commemorated the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint—two albums widely regarded as defining moments in hip-hop history. The performances served as both a celebration of Jay-Z's career and a reunion of artists who helped shape the genre.
For fans who came of age before streaming services, the concerts were also a reminder of an era when music was discovered in record stores and experienced through vinyl records, cassette tapes and compact discs. Album liner notes and cover art offered fans a deeper connection to the artists and the stories behind the music.
Jay-Z was joined onstage by an all-star lineup of surprise guests, including Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter, Eminem, Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Jadakiss, Jermaine Dupri, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Swizz Beatz and Usher. The audience also included numerous athletes, entertainers and other notable figures.
More than 135,000 fans attended the three-night residency, making it one of the largest concert events ever held at Yankee Stadium and further cementing New York's status as the epicenter of sports, music and entertainment this summer.
