Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, was one of the coldest evenings of the year so far, but even more memorable was the warmth that permeated the sold-out Jellabiya Iftar: The New York Edition, a celebration of both African excellence and Black excellence.

At least 100 attendees, ranging from their twenties and up, gathered in midtown Manhattan from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at an elegant commercial building. Guests embraced the dress code, donning dazzling fashion from Jellabiya and beyond.

The occasion marked the debut of Jellabiya’s Ramadan and Eid collection, as well as a menswear line developed by Jellabiya’s creative director and model, Baba Diop.

“We are here for more than fashion—it's about community and engagement,” said the evening’s host, Jennifer Oyite, a Nigerian fashion designer, global luxury advisor, and founder of Naira EGO, to the crowd on the top floor.

Downstairs, guests mingled at the bar, dining areas, and vendor booths, including Diambar Beauty, Mi French Pastries, Modify Thrift, INLSkin, and Kayrafet. Attendees were also notably interested in Lumiyya, a new Muslim lifestyle app.

The highly anticipated program launched with two thought-provoking panels exploring relatable themes such as defining success, networking, financial literacy, self-care, sustainability, and content creation. The latter panel was led by NYABJ’s Vice President of Digital, Mana Faye.

Panelists from fashion, culture, business, and media included:

Joelle Cartier, Vice President of Brand Marketing & Strategy at BET

Tomi Talabi, founder of Black Beauty Club

Fatou Fall, modest fashion content creator and founder of Fatou Fall Inc.

Fatou B. Barry, communication strategist and founder of PR Girl Manifesto

Amina Cocoa, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content creator

The Yusufs, fashion, beauty, and travel content creators and co-founders of The Millennial Suite (Natesha and Nuni Yusuf)

A standout moment occurred when Cartier reflected, “I was docile at first in my career. When I realized these companies were coming to me for resources, I learned to step up more.”

The panelists also agreed that “speed is valued” in today’s professional landscape. Barry, a 2024 Entreprenista 100 winner, shared her perspective on ambition and work ethic: “I don’t believe in work-life balance. There may be seasons when more is required of me.”

Guests enjoyed a world-class culinary experience, gift bags, and an editorial portrait session.

The evening culminated with a dynamic runway presentation. Audience members enthusiastically cheered and captured footage of the multicultural models—of varying genders—showcasing Jellabiya’s modest luxury designs.

Founded in 2019 by Khady Gaye Ndiaye, the Senegal-made company is worn worldwide and has been featured on CNN.

Anna Seck, attending in support of one of the vendors, summarized the night well: “It’s not often we have these types of events. The atmosphere is nice, diverse, welcoming, and a great opportunity to support businesses.”
