New York, NY — The New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ) has long been a trailblazer in setting high standards for journalism and leadership within the community. Throughout its history, the organization has been guided by many accomplished leaders who have left lasting impacts.

Ten years ago, in 2016, Michael J. Feeney served as NYABJ President, a tenure remembered for his dedication, vision, and commitment to excellence. Today, friends and family continue to celebrate his life and honor his enduring legacy.

Feeney’s written words and photographs are preserved as part of both NABJ and NYABJ history, serving as a testament to his influence and contributions to the field of journalism. His work and leadership continue to inspire new generations of journalists.

Annually, at the NABJ Convention, an award is presented in his honor—recognizing outstanding journalism and celebrating his legacy of excellence and service. The Michael J. Feeney Award stands as a symbol of his lasting impact on the industry and the organization he helped shape.

As the NYABJ community reflects on his legacy, it remains clear that Feeney’s contributions continue to inspire integrity, excellence, and dedication within journalism.
