NYABJ Host its Annual Pre-Convention Cookout

By: NYABJ Staff

As summer quickly comes to a close, NYABJ chose a warm day to host its annual Pre-Convention Cookout. The day started at noon in Harlem NY, with Vice President Bill Allen on the grill, cooking up hot dogs, hamburgers and more.

The members were greeted by the sounds of R&B classics and hip-hop legends. The Morningside Park bar-b-que grounds were soon filled with an array of members from past and present, some enjoying a game of Uno while others enjoyed catching up with old friends.

NYABJ hosts the annual event, as a way to get members excited for the NABJ national convention. The national convention is held every year in a different location and the multi day event includes one of the largest journalism career fairs, many panels ranging from topics on "how to build your network" to "data journalism" and everything in between. This year’s convention was held in Chicago, Illinois.

While some members who attended the cookout were not going to the convention, all were welcomed.

Vice President, Bill Allen was quoted as saying, “The NYABJ cookout is a day of togetherness, where people can let their hair down and enjoy good food and conversation”.
