Many described Monday, December 8th’s weather as “brutal,” with some news reports even calling it dangerous. However, that did not stop the New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ) nor the National Association of Hispanic Journalists NYC (NAHJ NYC) from coming together for their joint party, Holiday Slay. Members of both organizations gathered at the city’s PubKey for a night of food, fun, and networking, along with a few holiday festivities like the annual Holiday Sweater Contest! “Thank you, NYABJ and NAHJ NYC, for an evening filled with laughter, memories, and connections!” Rachel Ferguson, the Global Diversity Ambassador and Marketing Executive of Forrestal Marketing, expressed online.

CBS Sports Associate Producer Raymond Mora also sees the value and timeliness in both chapters uniting. “It’s about time we did that. We can help each other out in these crazy times, and it’s important to network as much as possible,” he said.

The festivities marked the final celebration of the year, concluding a season filled with memorable events, including the opener, Black History Month Brunch Fundraiser, the fourth annual Juneteenth Gala & Awards, NYABJ x Amazon Cocktails and Conversation, and the members-only exhibit viewing at The Met.

The award-winning chapter also hosted a range of informative panels, both virtually and in person, including Newsroom: Nontraditional Careers in Media and Journalism, Navigating Being On-Air, The Sidebar Presents: Balancing Motherhood in Journalism, and Beyond the Headlines: Covering the P. Diddy Trial from Start to Sentencing. Additional sessions explored sports journalism, monetizing newsletters, and more.

It was a season to remember, helmed by President Bonita Sostre and Vice President Bill Allen. Their influence on the chapter will remain as the new board steps in on January 1, 2026, with the launch of NYABJ Pulse and the podcast The Sidebar by NYABJ.
