August 10, NY Liberty vs Minnesota Lynx Legends Game at the Barclays Center was more than just a basketball game - it was a celebration of the early 2000s. It was an afternoon full of energy and performances, and a heartfelt moment to a former player.

From the moment I entered the Barclays center, the Y2K theme was felt. There was early 2000s music playing almost non stop and even a performance by the dance team Lil’ Torches, that was Cheetah Girls inspired.

During halftime, a Liberty Legend, Tari Phillips, was inducted into the Liberty Ring of Fire. She shared how grateful she was for her fans and her tears of joy left the crowd in awe when Ellie the Elephant gave her, her flowers. Ellie the Elephant put on a great performance as well and kept the crowds energy high.

During timeouts the crowd was treated to a Y2K inspired game such as finish the lyrics where they gave 3 songs — “oops!… I did it again”, “Survivor” and “Ms. Jackson”. The contestant Marcella, won a jersey and a liberty plush.

Shirts and other gifts, including tickets, were given throughout the afternoon. Some were hidden under the seats as well.

Spike Lee and actor Tony Goldwyn were also in the audience. Ellie the Elephant put on a great performance as well and kept the crowds energy high.

The competition remained intense  as the both teams remained tied most of the game. That is,until the Lynx took the lead in the third quarter. The NY Liberty’s ultimately lost 83-71 but they played a good game nonetheless. On Saturday August 16, the two teams will played a close game again at the Target Center in Minnesota with the Liberty losing 80-86.
