The 45th Sports Emmy Awards is approaching and will honor sports broadcasting legend James Brown. On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Brown will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at New York City’s Lincoln Center.
Brown is a three Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster who has been a news and sports journalist in the New York Area for years. He hosted programs such as NFL Today on CBS, NFL on Fox, Inside the NFL, the NFL on CBS, The CBS Evening News, and 12 Super Bowls.
Brown was named Best Studio Host of the Decade by Sports Illustrated, the NFL Players Association named the JB Awards in his honor and was awarded the Pete Rozelle Award from the Football Hall of Fame. Mr Brown has also written a book, “Role of a Lifetime, Reflections on Faith, Family and Significant Living.”
Elsewhere, renowned sportscaster Bryant Gumbel was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 44th Sports Emmys Awards in May 2023.
Gumbel has amassed a long career in journalism. He was the host of the NBC Today Show for 15 years.
Gumbel has also created and hosted HBO’s “Real Sports with Brian Gumbel”. Real Sports has been a part of broadcast and cable television for almost 30 years. The last program episode ended this year.
Gumbel has a Peabody Award four Sports Emmy Awards, three NAACP
Image Awards, Alfred I. DuPont Columbia University Award For outstanding broadcast
journalism, Turner Broadcasting, Trumpet Award, and numerous other awards. Gumbel was
also, the 1993 New York Association of Black Journalists of the Year.
The 45th Sports Emmy Awards will air on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. on CBS News and CBS Sports / NFL Today on CBS.
