New York City — Ailey II, the acclaimed second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will returned to The Joyce Theater from March 17 to 22 as part of its 2025-26 world tour.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Francesca Harper, the company presented eight performances featuring two dynamic programs that highlight both emerging and established choreographers, alongside a classic work by Alvin Ailey.
This season includes four world premieres showcasing the versatility and range of the company’s dancers. Among them is Likes vs Life by Renée I. McDonald, an intense trio exploring the pressures of social media, and In Session by Rena Butler, an athletically driven piece examining identity, rebellion and community among young people.
They also premiered the Third Person Point of View by My’Kal Stromile, which delves into the complexities of relationships, and Berry Dreamin’ by Chalvar Monteiro, inspired by the music of Chuck Berry.
The program also featured Streams, a classic work by Ailey that explores movement, space and emotion through abstract choreography set to a percussive score.
While the run at The Joyce theater has ended the Alvin Ailey tour continues, you can learn more about it here.
