Twenty-nine years ago Smith and Lawrence teamed up for the buddy-cop film spanning the streets of Miami. They're back in 2024 for "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," the fourth film in the franchise, and it's hot, hilarious, and a good time. The banter between the two stars is intertwined with sentimental moments, involving Smith's statements, dually placed with Lawrence's quick-witted banter. After all this time, the pair prove to be a dynamic duo still.
Impressive camera shots, bright cinematography, and a shining cast make this a fun watch for the summer season. This time, the Bad Boys are working to redeem the name of their captain Conrad Howard. Along their journey they are aided by various characters including Mike's villain-turned-hero son Armando, marking his second appearance since "Bad Boys for Life" and a film highlight. Smith's acting flourishes in the layered relationship shared with his son. Also returning is Marcus' son-in-law Reggie, used as a pawn for jokes but turning out to have a surprising role in the movie's climax.
An anxiety-inducing battle aboard a helicopter is a highlight of the movie, albeit a stressful one. The film is perfect for any action lover with impressive stunts, car chases, and tense shootouts, with a few memorable cameos from past "Bad Boys" alumni and new faces. Tasha Smith makes an appearance as Lawrence's character's wife, a change from Theresa Randall featured in all other films in the series. The movie is an adventure from start to finish and exciting for newcomers and longtime fans of the series.
