Greenland 2: Migration, is a raw, emotional sequel that builds on its predecessor "Greenland" which was released in 2020. Gerard Butler who stars as John Garrity delivered a captivating performance.

Set a decade after the events of the first film, in which a planet-killing comet has devastated Earth, the movie follows John Garrity and his family, who must journey across Europe to find a new safe haven.

The film begins in Greenland, where a subset of people have taken shelter in a bunker. The shelter eventually implodes due to a massive radiation storm, and John guides his wife Alison (Morena Baccarin), their diabetic son, Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis), and a team of two scientists to a crater, an area left by the comet in Southern France that is believed to be a land where human life can re-flourish and thrive.

The family meets many people along the way, but because no meaningful relationships are formed, the tragedies don’t feel particularly impactful since the audience hasn’t had enough time to truly connect with the characters. Where the movie shines is in the chaotic journey to France, filled with a balance of high-intensity action scenes and heartwarming family moments.

The sequel does a great job of raising the emotional stakes, and leaning into the family dynamic of the Garrity clan.

“If you enjoyed the first one, you’ll definitely enjoy this one,” said an attendee. “I genuinely cried at the end.”

Greenland 2, rated PG-13, is scheduled to be released in the United States on January 9, 2026.
