New York City certainly adores Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former Secretary of State. She has represented our nation and the state of New York well. But her most recent adventure of serving as co-producer of the two-time Tony Awards winner “Suffs” is extraordinary.
Historically, Broadway has always been the entertainment capital for stage performances. Therefore, when I heard Ida B. Wells, the trailblazing journalist character was portrayed in this musical production by Nikki M. James, it thrilled me.
“I didn’t know a lot about Ida, I knew her name” she stated on “The View”. “And I just found in myself every day more-and-more about just stillness, braveness and confidence in oneself,” replied the Tony Award nominee for best-featured actress.
“Suffs", the musical is a downright entertaining show that focuses on the struggles women endured to achieve voting rights. Through drama and song, the cast dramatizes the painstaking journey experienced during the years Woodrow Wilson served as president of the United States.
Standing in line for a late June evening performance to enter Music Box Theater, an unidentified theatergoer mentioned, “I’m a woman for one, and that’s the reason I’m attending this production.”
Besides being extremely entertaining, Suffs is certainly for connoisseurs of history.
