On the last Sunday of February, the New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ) gathered for their annual Black History Month Brunch Fundraiser at Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too in Harlem, New York City. This year's event was hosted by Spectrum Meteorologist and award-winning children's book author Guy Brown. Attendees enjoyed delicious food, great conversation, and fun activities, including trivia and raffles.

As plates were filled with crispy fried chicken, waffles, shrimp and grits, guests settled in for an afternoon of fellowship and celebration. The warmth of the food matched the energy in the room. "My favorite part about the brunch is that it actually feels like a family reunion. The vibes are southern, and it feels very much like home," said Yaya, creator of Art & Soul Hamptons.
From long-time members to those new to the organization, like Kiir Knight, senior talent producer at Fox Sports, attendees appreciated the opportunity to connect with local journalists. "I was excited to fellowship and network with people in the journalism space in Harlem. It's like NABJ but localized, and I've never been able to do that before," said Knight.

While the food warmed bellies, the trivia kept brunchers on their toes. "My favorite part was the trivia—we had so much fun! There was a lot of excitement, and people really got into answering the questions," shared NYABJ President Bonita Sostre.
Multiple trivia rounds featured questions spanning pop culture, fashion, sports, and politics, keeping the crowd engaged and competitive. Those who answered more challenging questions were rewarded with Tupac: Cover Up gift packs.

Everyone wasn't a trivia winner, but everyone did go home with a swag bag valued at over $150, featuring products from Hask Hair, Still Standing, British M, Burst, Matrix, Olay and First Line Brands.
Event host Guy Brown expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, "It matters more than ever, especially right now with where we are politically. Just getting out into the community—I'm so excited to be a member, continue to be involved, and attend more events like this."
President Sostre closed out the event by emphasizing its purpose and impact: "Our annual Black History Month Brunch is one of our key fundraisers, helping us raise money for our First Take High School Journalism Program while continuing the initiatives of the New York Association of Black Journalists."
